BiographyBorn on Long Island, Michael Wells studied sculpture at State University of New York at Purchase College under Philip Listengart. While at school, Michael lived in Brooklyn and worked at the famous Cedar Tavern.
Michael has works in private collections and currently lives and keeps a studio in upstate New York.
Michael uses traditional materials and technique to create imagery that expresses rudimentary emotions. The nude is used as a vehicle to portray a timeless scene stripped of evidence of the modern world. The figures and heads within the works are positioned in a dream-like state to create an allegory that evokes the subconscious. Fear, pain, loss and the impending nature of the knowledge of one's own mortality are among the ideas explored in Michael's attempt to satisfy questions with no answers.
